Utena Ep 16-19

lizardjayThese episodes, despite their horrors, weren't quite as impactful as the last few. That's okay! If we maintained the same level I think my brain would explode.
EPISODE SIXTEEN
This is the cowbell episode. I was so so afraid from the preview. It turned out both better and worse than I was expecting XD
Anthy has an entire dorm to watch TV in and chooses the bedroom where Utena is trying to sleep :D It's good to see her having snacks and doing what she wants.
I'm so happy that the child minion has returned!! Of course, it's concerning that this is during the time that Nanami is turning into a cow, but I'll take what I can get.
Now: Anthy. You did this.... why? I mean, I guess there's two options:
1) Anthy did all this on purpose.
2) Anthy didn't, BUT she still named her pet cow (??) 'Nanami', which is pretty mean, and didn't bring up the mixup at any point before it was all over.
ALSO, she knit a red sweater on purpose knowing (????) that Nanami would get Bull Instinct and charge at it. So no matter how you look at it, Anthy comes out of it looking really suspicious.
Can I blame her? NOT REALLY.
EPISODE SEVENTEEN
Juri episode: the black rose redux.
(At some point the subs changed from Jury to Juri so I guess I'll do that now.)
Chu-chu wants to fence!
Miki's interrogation was really funny :D
Nanami: Come on Miki. As a member of the student council this OBVIOUSLY means you should be on guard against your sister pulling a sword out of you. This is such a rookie mistake.
And then she STOLE HIS STOPWATCH and asked him about it. Don't tell me the reason behind it yet! I don't want to know!
(06:13 timestamp, 7 seconds and 73 hundredths on the clock. Now that the number has gone over 60, I know it's hundredths! Anyway, rewind that far and Nanami is in the middle of a sentence.)
NANAMI PLEASE STOP MAKING THE SWORD PULLING SUGGESTIVE! I mean, this theming only increases over the next couple episodes, so I can't stop this train.

Utena, you have to stop going alone to talk to Anthy's brother. You HAVE TO. Also, stop meddling in people's relationship when you don't know anything XD
Akio compares Utena to Ganymede, and.... the relevant detail is "The myth was a model for the Greek social custom of paiderastía, the romantic relationship between an adult male and an adolescent male." I REITERATE: GET OUT!!!! STOP TALKING TO AKIO!!!!!! M also brings up a possible parallel of being 'mortal among the immortals' with Utena being kind of the odd one out in this whole rose world.
I wonder who led to the pendant being in Shiori's room. The logical assumption is one of the Black Rose people. I also wonder, because the rose groom is very water-associated, if they have water magic powers... and if they threw the pendant in the window, or connected the waters of the flower vase to the lake water and teleported the pendant in that way. Not that it matters!
In the dueling arena, the birds extended past where there were desks... weird!
Once again, post-duel we have an apparent change in attitude, but this time Anthy says Shiori hasn't changed a bit.
EPISODE EIGHTEEN
The episode where we just come out and say what it takes to become an adult. Especially the puppet show... "Donating blood"? YEAH RIGHT
I like Tsuwabaki's little clay guys on the desks. Inside the big ones are littler ones... perhaps that's supposed to be like the child within the adult or something? Unfortunately I guess this scene was too serious for Anthy to eat the chocolates like she drank the milkshakes in Kozue vs. Utena. Or maybe she did offscreen.
The swords disappeared at some point after Tsuwabaki lost. I wonder if they're destroyed or if they go back to Nanami.
EPISODE NINETEEN
Onion Prince!!
Once again, we must ask why Miki had a picture of Anthy in his notebook. It makes sense now, but before they met.....
Stopwatch timestamp 08:12, 5 and 25/100 seconds on the clock: that takes us back to right after he asked Juri to not tease him, and he stops the clock after Nanami speaks.
Stopwatch timestamp 08:33, 17 seconds on the clock: he stops it right after Nanami says her and Touga's love is eternal -_- If we rewind 17 seconds, that takes us to while he's in the middle of responding to Nanami. BUT. It just occurred to me that perhaps he didn't reset the clock after the previous 5 seconds. If we just go back 12 seconds, it's neatly right after he finishes talking. (This realization might ruin some of my earlier list..... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
It's been a while in-universe for Touga to still be out of it... is he in a coma now??

Utena is shipping Wakaba/Onion Prince SO hard. Alas, it's not to be.
LOLOL the black roses didn't want Onion Prince. I mean, he has no deep connection with Utena, so why would they? Mikage rejects him because he's too good of a person, but surely that's not true. Onion Prince is no better than any of the previous people.
