AMV: Don't Worry Be Randall
I can't for the life of me figure out how to do a cut tag. I tried both HTML and the Rich Text Editor and it won't hide my bullet points. Maybe next time!
For my first Festivids I received TWO videos which is very exciting! The Climb is a beautiful uplifting Moana vid, and Home is a Space Sweepers vid about Bubs, and I love both of them very much.
This is what I made:
For my first Festivids I received TWO videos which is very exciting! The Climb is a beautiful uplifting Moana vid, and Home is a Space Sweepers vid about Bubs, and I love both of them very much.
This is what I made:
- Something about the song I didn't notice until I cut out over half of it: it speeds up! I assume it does this slowly over the course of the several chorus repeats there are at the end of the song, but since I cut out a bunch of them, the tempo transition in this is a bit abrupt. Though listening to it again, it's not super apparent if you're not paying attention. I hope.
- The lipsyncing... luckily I was primed from my last AMV to not care about spending hours on tedious frame-by-frame work, so. It was tough but it never felt TOO tough.
- Originally I didn't have Randall sing "here's a little song I wrote" because he was moving and I didn't want to deal with it, but my friend insisted and he was right. It sets the tone and the expectation for the whole video. I do think I left one of the mouth frames lingering a little long at the very end because as his mouth closes, I think it becomes very apparent that this is constructed lipsync and not a happy coincidence from the original animation. But, that also gives it an almost stop-motion feel, if that makes sense; it makes me think of the guy who introduces the stop motion Rudolph movie, the postman? Or maybe he does the one about Santa. Either way, I don't think it takes away the charm but it's less polished than it could be. (This is what this lipsyncing does to me... I start looking at everything by individual frames.)
- I considered making the tiny Randalls in the little pod-car sing, but I couldn't stomach the infinite layers that would need. I already had two shots with seven layers. It would've been really cute though!
- This is the first AMV I've ever done that doesn't really have a story, and it made me so nervous. I normally just start at the beginning of whatever storyline I'm focusing on, and move chronologically to the end with occasional flashbacks. Obviously, Randall has no character conflict or change whatsoever, so that wouldn't really work here. You can see in the middle of the video (which I did last) where I went back to my usual method and just used the Amelia chase in order, interspersed with lipsyncing.

Looks like you figured out the cut as well :D The interface is confusing because the Preview shows you the whole post - where the cut wouldn't show!! But it shows fine in your journal.

Haha it looks like I actually had two layers of cut tags... I kept desperately trying things and then checking the preview to see nothing had changed. Good to know it doesn't show there!
