Let me preamble this comment by saying that I first watched this movie on VHS in 5th or 6th grade with zero knowledge of the show whatsoever. It changed me as a person and has been percolating in my brain for 20 years and I still don't understand half of it sjdhfskjdf
After leaving my previous comment I googled reddit threads on the movie to try and find someone's comments to try and explain better why I feel like the movie is more a sequel to the show than anything and found this random comment. I don't think there'll ever be a perfect explanation for everything that happens in the movie, but I'm perfectly happy to let there be some weird unexplainable parts because I just love it so much haha. Probably my nostalgia goggles talking but oh well. Smarter people than me have probably taken apart every minute of this film but I'm just like "ahhhh it's so pretty and the soundtrack is full of bangers"
It's definitely a weird movie and watching the series finally a couple years ago didn't make it any more sense sjdhfskdf but reading other people's reactions/theories helps make SOME things make sense haha. Rewatching it probably helps too because the first time watching is just like whaaaat is happening.
Justice for Nanami though why wasn't my girl in the movie!!!
