Hi! Sorry I'm late. I have some optional details below because that's what everyone seems to do in their letters, but don't feel at all bound to them. I will like anything you make; I've never done an exchange before so seriously, just getting anything will be very exciting!
Dirty Computer - Janelle Monáe (Emotion Picture) [SAFETY]
Dirty Computer is, per the Youtube description, "a narrative film and accompanying musical album". You can find it here. It's wonderful! I'm open to anything you want to make for this. If you're inclined to use other Janelle Monáe music videos as well, feel free.
I think you could go several different ways with this. A fun rhythmic dance vid; a dark cynical vid; a hopeful vid.
映像研には手を出すな! | Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! | Keep Your Hands off Eizoken! (Anime)
I'll be honest, I haven't finished watching this, but I will by Festivids time. What I've seen already is beautiful and SO fun. The visuals are so creative, so I'd like something that plays with that. I also wouldn't be opposed to a slapstick humor type of vid! Or a feel-good one about how the club forms and grows. Since I haven't finished watching I don't know how much screentime different characters may have... so if you have a minor character you want to focus on, that would be good too.
Ponyo [SAFETY]
This is one of those Ghibli movies where I honestly have no idea what the plot was but it doesn't matter, somehow the movie is still good. I'd like something focused on Ponyo, please! Or just all the visuals: I love Ghibli water physics.
Treasure Planet (2002) [SAFETY]
Treasure Planet is a movie of my childhood which is somehow underappreciated. It's ships in space that mysteriously have air, what's not to like?
Ideas:
- Lean into all the flying, and use a lot of the hover-skateboard shots as well as the scene where they go out in the little boat
- Character vid!
승리호 | Space Sweepers (2021) [SAFETY]
If you haven't watched Space Sweepers I highly recommend it. It's on Netflix (and, probably, other places) and is very good despite (because of??) having the answer to every question being "nanobots".
Ideas:
- Something darkly funny, with a "work is hell" type of song
- Bubs!!!! Honestly any character vid would be great, but I especially love Bubs.
- I'd also love something set to a... I don't know musical genres super well. An angry rock song? Something loud and mad. There's a lot to be mad about in the Space Sweepers world!
Moana (2016) [SAFETY]
Ideas:
- Something focused on the ocean as a character, or from the ocean's POV.
- Moana and her relationship to her people
- I dearly love manta rays so of course Moana's grandma is my favorite. I don't actually know if there's enough material to support a vid about her? But imagine!
