Festivids 2023-24 Letter

lizardjayHello!! I'm so excited to see whatever you'll make. If you already have an idea, go for it! All my details below are just to give you ideas.
Music: I like a wide variety of music; use whatever speaks to you. I listen to an awful lot of pop but I check out a ton of other genres too. I'm especially interested in stuff with interesting beats or instrumentation. If you like, you're welcome to use instrumental music or songs in another language (though in that case please provide the lyrics somewhere!).
映像研には手を出すな! | Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! | Keep Your Hands off Eizoken! (Anime)
The visuals are so creative, so I'd like something that plays with that. I also wouldn't be opposed to a slapstick humor type of vid! Or a feel-good one about how the club forms and grows. You could also do something fun and meta with the creation process, or focus on one or all of the girls. So, anything really!
If you haven't seen it: It's a 12 episode anime about three high school girls who form an anime-making club. Along the way, they battle: the school administration! the student council! and worst of all, budgets and schedules!
となりのトトロ | Tonari no Totoro | My Neighbor Totoro (1988) [SAFETY]
Totoro is the movie of my heart. I've seen it so so many times! I would be happy with literally anything.
If you haven't seen it: I highly recommend it! It's about two girls and their father who move to the countryside to be closer to the mom, who's in the hospital. They also meet some nature spirits.
崖の上のポニョ | Gake no Ue no Ponyo | Ponyo (2008) [SAFETY]
Ponyo is such a fun movie. The Ghibli water physics are on full display! I'd be happy with anything for this one as well. It's just so pretty!
If you haven't seen it: It's about this little fish girl who ends up turning into a human child. But her father, who's a wizard (I guess? It's a little confusing :D) isn't very happy about that...
パプリカ | Paprika (2006) [SAFETY]
I watched Paprika a couple years ago so I could offer it for Festivids :D You could go so many different directions with this. Horror, something exploring the dream world, something focusing on Paprika and/or Chiba...

风灵玉秀 | Soulmate Adventure (Cartoon 2017)
I'm in the process of watching season two (I will be done before vids come out, I promise), so I'm sure I'm not thinking of all the possible vid ideas. Even so, I think a Ling/Yuxiu or Ling&Yuxiu vid is obviously a great idea, yes? But I'd also love one focused more on one girl or the other, or about the story as a whole. Or a fight choreography vid just for visual spectacle!
If you haven't seen it: It's great fun! It's (implied) F/F Chinese animation, 24 episodes counting both seasons. The first season at least is about two girls, traveling the land and getting mixed up in martial arts showdowns and conflicts between powerful groups. I'm still finding out about the second season :D It's very charming and the battles especially are beautifully animated.
Janelle Monáe Music Videos
Janelle Monáe is one of my favorite musical artists, and their videos are always great! I'm not a music video person, I normally don't watch them at all, but I've watched most of these. I have no idea what a vid would look like, but I'd be fascinated to see it! I'm not sure if it would be best with one of her songs, or with something else completely...
If you haven't seen them: They're on Youtube! Especially check out Dirty Computer (an "emotion picture" that's basically a movie of an entire album).
