Felt like making a mega-post for once of all the stuff I've been up to for the last... while. I mean, to me it's a mega-post. I'm not usually a verbose writer so anything more than a couple paragraphs is a lot :D

Music:

I think I want to start a semi-regular roundup of "songs I've been enjoying recently". So.... here is the first! This isn't a ranking list or anything, nor is it necessarily the best songs I've listened to lately.... just the ones I've been obsessed with. I will note that I am bad at identifying genres but I'm doing my best here.

This list will have a theme because the first couple I thought of were all similar. The theme is: GROOVE?
  • Engel by Rammstein. Genre: rock?
  • This isn't new to me but I was reminded of it the other day. The instrumental is SO good. No idea what they're saying. I could listen to the guitar on loop for ages.
  • Lovers by Kiltro. Genre: ???
  • This IS new to me and I love it. Normally a 6.5 minute song is too long for me but this song doesn't even feel long, it just moves.
  • Hey Lady by Skogsrå. Genre: pop.
  • Another long one (6.5 minutes again). No idea what this song is about: a lady, I guess? I haven't once paid attention to the lyrics. The star of this song is the very long building section in the middle.
  • Sugar Babies by Spoon. Genre: ... pared down rock?
  • It has this one piano bar that repeats probably 100 times, and I would listen to it 500 more times. It's the same every time. I wish it was in there more. (There was a similar tone of piano in On The Radio, which is what elevated that song from Decent to AMAZING. I don't have a lot of piano knowledge.... it's clunky?) The percussion is also great. This song is also long... I guess when the selling point is repetition, you need a long song.

Honorable mentions that don't fit the theme:

Watching:
  • The Apothecary Diaries (first two six episodes): great fun! I've heard good things about the light novels so I was really looking forward to this, and it doesn't disappoint. Jinshi is very suspicious :D
  • Pokemon (the new season): I like this a lot. Liko and Roy and Dot are great, the rest of the crew is great, there's a good mix of plot relevant episodes and.... in another show I guess I'd call them filler episodes, but they're an important staple of a show like Pokemon! On a side note, I feel like they're giving Amethio (our first bad guy) the Zuko treatment and I'm here for it 😅
  • Bofuri: just finished this a couple weeks ago. It's not something I'd have picked up myself, but it's easy watching and the characters are enjoyable.
  • [REDACTED stuff I've been watching for Festivids]
  • My friend and I are trying to pick our next show. I'm angling for Revue Starlight bc I've heard good things, but we'll see.

Gaming:

Very little :/ I've played some Mario Wonder at my friend's house, which has really showed some fascinating differences between us.

Me: I hate that there's a run button. I always forget it exists. Luigi should just speed up after I've been going for a while.
Him: I am literally never not holding down the run button.
Me: but how do you do that? It's a face button, along with the jump button. Making us press down two face buttons at once is evil.
He shows me that he just uses his thumb to press them both down. The worst thing is, the one he's HOLDING is with the tip of his thumb, while the jump button is more near the joint.....
Me: I hate it. *shows him how I do it, which is to use my thumb for the jump button, and then to bring my index finger around and press the run button with the side of my finger.*
Him: I hate THAT!

Anyway, I firmly believe you shouldn't have to press two face buttons like that. If you have to have both, the one you hold should be closer to the base of the thumb, and the intermittent one should be at the tip of the thumb. This current arrangement is evil. You can't even re-map to a shoulder button!

This problem aside, the game is fun. Unfortunately it's reawakened my persistent desire to buy Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker, even though I have several games in the backlog to play. I just.... want..... puzzles.......

I almost forgot to include this because it's a browser game, but I've been playing insane amounts of online riichi mahjong for the last several months. I really enjoy it but whenever I play I get consumed by Competitive Spirit and I have to calm myself down 😅

Actual Life Stuff

New job is going fine, the apartment move went well. Hoping to start investigating new apartments soon but for now it's nice to be with my mom.

I visited a friend (and her new dog!!) in [Hour-Away City] last weekend. Her wedding is next winter and she asked me to be in the wedding party. I'm very excited!! I've never had anything to DO at a wedding before (and she hasn't solidified a lot of things yet so idk what's needed) so hopefully that goes well.

Also, the puppy is adorable. They're still training her not to jump though, so she had to be on leash for my whole visit 😅

Nothing too exciting other than that. We went to a local festival a couple weeks ago and bought some candles and soap and stuff. We always buy candles from the same couple, they're at all the local festivals and events. I got apple cinnamon this time :D

Our dishwasher just stopped working which is an enormous tragedy. The error code seems to be the drain, which we've checked as best we can... I suspect it's the pump. Idk. I took out the racks and poked around a bit but it's beyond me. Mom's calling our repair guy but until then it's handwashing D:

Hello, kitties! ♥

I am glad things are mostly going well, but deep sympathies on the dishwasher. D: Dishwasher woes are awful (my sister recently had a horrible time replacing hers).

CAT PICTURES!! :D :D

Dishwasher breaking down is so annoying because you know it's like one of the least worst things to break down (washing machine or stove or fridge or whatever sucks donkeyballs) (we had to fix the shower last week 😩), but at the same time... life without a dishwasher is way more annoying once you're used to having one haha. Good luck with this and with all the things! :D
