lizardjay: a friendly cartoon duck (duck)

My mom and I went on a walk this morning by the ocean. It was perfectly sunny as we drove there, but when we crossed the bridge to where we wanted to walk, it got.... spooky :D

Basically all my pictures came out the same but I couldn't resist taking them. The atmosphere was so cool! It got foggier and foggier as we walked. At first you could see some kind of horizon, and then it went away, and eventually if you stood on a pier you could hardly see the land. My glasses misted up and my hair got a little wet! A ship was blowing its horn every couple of minutes, getting closer and closer, but we never saw it.

It was surprisingly bright for how foggy it was. Honestly, I think the fog tricked me into looking more directly at the sun than I should have. My eyes hurt a bit this evening :(

I couldn't get any further onto this fishing pier; it was roped off because of the railing damage. I wanted to see the birds T_T

On another topic: my recent art!

First, digital art. This is fanart for an ongoing xianxia... webnovel, I guess? It began life as a forum quest (ongoing) but I don't read that part. Anyway, it starts with Forge of Destiny which can be found on Royal Road. This isn't any specific scene (unless I've miraculously predicted a future event??? I'm not done reading), just some vibes-based art.

I'm very pleased with it. It's not perfect, of course, but it captures what I wanted to convey. I'm VERY happy with the top hand, the overall look, and the very doll-like look of Cai Renxiang (the bottom figure).

I'll also include 1) my initial idea sketch, and 2) the reference photo I took to get some of the angles right. Yes, that is a Teletubby lying on top of some wings I drew on notebook paper. I used what I had.

Most of all I'm happy with the process of this. I took the sketch and worked on one part at a time, and I never got stuck. This is huge! I think I've finally figured out how to work on (digital) art. I feel much more confident for future pieces! You CAN go from a technically-awful sketch to a good finished piece!

In another medium, I've also gotten some watercolors. I'm still learning a lot but this is what I've done so far.

I didn't press the tape down hard enough for the next one, so the edges are jaggedy :( but I'm finding plain washes of color really satisfying to do.

(Is jaggedy not a word? Only jagged? My life is a lie...)

It looks like the left half is in shadow, in the photo; it's not. I painted darker on the left and lighter on the right. It looks better in real life.

These didn't start life as blueberries... I will not be blamed for the misshapen one. I was using up some leftover blue and just idly did some blobs; after they dried I realized I could draw in some lines and make them into something.

Oooooh, those are some eerie photos. :O Nice!

The digital piece looks great, too - I love that clean style, it's got a great ominous look. :D And the watercolors are lovely! ♥

Wow that first picture literally feels like a wall!! :o :o

Hahaha omg teletubby magic :D So cool! I'm glad you're figuring out a process that works well for you, that helps SO MUCH!!

The watercolours are also lovely. I particularly like the forest one :)
