It's MORE UTENA time :D
EPISODE 6
LOLOL Nanami just climbing on the table to reach her brother (Miki: *blinking*) and then she says "Nanami is so scared"....
Her brother, whose name I need to learn: "lol. lmao. You're making this up." Such a loving brother XD
"Her policy is not to get her own hands dirty." I love how Nanami's underlings are so open about this :D
Cute baseball outfit, Utena! As we see throughout the next couple episodes, Utena seems to play every sport.
Who does red hair want Anthy to kill?? (I'm guessing flowers. Or bugs! Or snails!) --> It was bugs.
Touga! His name is Touga!
A HORSE IS LOOSE IN THEHOSPITAL SCHOOL!
Miki and Utena are such funny friends. Here they are spying on Nanami from behind bushes... oh, and now Nanami's underlings have joined!
Nanami that is a CHILD!!! You can't date him!!!
"Dregs. Leftovers.... Parsley."
Oh god the child is her minion.
Saionji shows up to monologue weirdly about love. The long pause after that was perfect comedy.
"I'll have to put her in danger again" INCREDIBLE! The elementary school child is threatening Nanami's life so he can save her!!! I love him. This kid is just the right amount of insane to fit in around here.
SURPRISE!! RUNAWAY KANGAROO!! So far this is the best anime I've seen in my life.
(My friend M: "did Touga release the kangaroo on purpose so HE could save Nanami?")

Huh. Can Jury.... rewrite reality?
STOP THE ANTHY SLAPS! We went all last episode without one!!
Miki, you deserve better than this.
It's interesting how End of the World dictates their duel schedule.

I'm not sure I fully get Jury's motivation for the duel here, but that's okay. Her backstory is fun.
THAT DUEL WAS GREAT.
Oh so Jury is EXPLICITLY into the girl. (Well. Of course it's still implied. But it's a higher level of implied than I thought it would be.)
The way reality works in Utena is interesting.... I'm not sure if it's This Deep or not, but I might as well assume it is. The elementary school child can manifest boxing gloves and Nanami can create a whole audio recording setup out of thin air. The recurring set piece of the shadow puppet people surely has to be thematic, in terms of 'showing things through representation'. At first I had thought it was only the dueling realm where magic could happen, but I don't think that's true.
But maybe this is all fake and it's just Funny Anime Scenarios, like Anthy and her snails.
Speaking of Anthy, she continues to be fascinating. Why was she reaching out to Jury in that way?

Again, why did no one tell me Utena was funny.... This is a BODYSWAP episode!!! Phenomenal.
I guess Nanami is just naturally beset by animals at all times.
My current theory for Miki's stopwatch (again, without going back to check anything) is that he uses it for divination. It makes as much sense as anything. (After going back to check in this instance: yeah, nothing happened 12 seconds before he stopped the clock.)
Now, after he's fully lost Anthy, Saionji is.... exchanging a diary with her? As if he cares for her? What a mystery of a guy. And then of course Anthy is fully ready to drop it the instant Utena expresses any disapproval. Or so she says. (Just add "or so she says" anytime I mention anything that Anthy says or does. I have doubts.)
Does an Anthy slap count as an Anthy slap if Utena was the one in her body?
I wish they had kept Saionji and Chu-chu swapped.
EPISODE 9
Saionji and Touga backstory time! They've known each other for many years and have been dueling that entire time.
"I'm an ally to women." A MORE FALSE STATEMENT HAS NEVER BEEN SAID. Stop creepily touching this girl's hair. Touga, an ally to women....
We're all assuming that the girl Touga and Saionji met in the coffin was Utena, because of the pink hair. But of course that's not proven. If it was Utena, then did Touga have a ring already and give it to her?
And besides, why does Touga get to talk to End of the World on the phone? I understood everyone else used letters only. He has special treatment.... (Also, he lounges on a bed with several women, while talking on the phone about Friendship Being Stupid. As one does.)
Why WERE there three coffins? Maybe Utena has been dead all along--- 😅
Anyway. SOMEBODY knocked Saionji out (into the water!!! He was actively drowning!!) and then got Anthy into the dueling area. If only anyone ever.... asked questions about these things.... I guess the logical culprit is Touga, since he set the whole thing up. And then I guess put Anthy in the coffin to call back to their childhood experience for Saionji. (Or was the whole setup supposed to evoke the memory for UTENA?) Not sure what the castle breaking thing was about, because it restored itself. Maybe it's a thing of belief and perception.
Anthy during all this: I Guess I'll Go Along With All This, Why Not
So far Touga might be the only person who hasn't been shown to have other people treating him awfully. This of course just leads me to believe End of the World is his abusive dad or something.
I guess we'll see if Saionji actually gets expelled. What for, abducting Anthy? Hurting Touga? I'm surprised they'd risk calling attention to the duels. I guess if everyone sticks to their stories it's okay.
M thinks the prince-ghost thing might literally be the ghost of Anthy's father or grandfather or something. I'm not so sure... I don't think it's something so concrete.

THE BODYSWAP EPISODE :D One of my favorite bodyswaps of all time, ever. The determined elephants absolutely slay me. Nanami does kind of have it coming, but also, poor Nanami... :'D Saionji and Chu-chu should definitely have stayed swapped. An improvement all around. XD
That is truly the biggest lie/translation flub! IIRC, "feminist" as a loanword in Japanese has more connotations of being a ladies' man than anything feminist, but I'm pretty sure that's something I heard secondhand, so take it with a grain of salt... (It definitely makes more sense with Touga's overall characterization, though!)
