Prompt #1 for
So, here is my first fanfic, written when I was almost six years old. It features the Powerpuff Girls and Link from Legend of Zelda.

I, of course, wrote it in this beautiful Lisa Frank diary.

Below is a transcription, though there are some things that are beyond my ability to read. (WHY did I write a sentence in peach colored pencil??). It maintains my original spelling but I'm adding some line breaks because otherwise the dialogue makes NO sense.
Date: May 30, 2001
Title: Powerpuff Girls [Or maybe it's Show... Powerpuff Girls. Difficult to tell.]
It was Link's first day of school. Blosom Bubbeles and Buttercup were wathing a puppet show and were tired from moving their puppet so they waited till the Professor came. But he didint. The girls dident know wy. So they flyed home but they saw Link with no frends. They looked at him and he did not see them. Link was a very shy boy. The girls asked Link somthing and he said Yes! So he did what they asked so he did it. And guess what?
[unreadable sentence]
I hope you make it Link.
Well I better go off I don't want to be late for high school.
Well see you later alligator
Well bye bye I can't be late.
Well today a new student is here please say your name
Uh, hi my name is Link nice to meet you.
Stupid!
WHAT! *shing*
Link don't pull out your sord!
Why not?
Well, I'm sorry. Not stupid. Really, and my name is Samuel.
Well, I accept. *shing*
When school was over, he sat in the alleys. He would starve once again. Later, at lunch, Link unsheathed his sword again. *shing* "No!" someone said. Link never knew it was his guardian, but it was a freind. It was a big flowery plant, and Link decided to take it home.
[End]
Every time I read this I laugh so hard I cry. I love so many of the lines in this! The ominous energy of "I hope you make it Link" in red marker is unparalleled. Why did I know how quotes worked for the last bit of dialogue, but not for the beginning? Who is Samuel??? Why does Link have a guardian who is a plant? Why does almost every line of dialogue start with "well"? Why could I spell "unsheathed" but not "why"?
I was clearly having a lot of fun though! I have a few diaries and sketchbooks from around that age, and I really like looking through them because of how joyful and unselfconscious they are. Sure, I'm making fun of this story a bit now, but I genuinely love it. At the time, I watched Powerpuff Girls every single time it was on TV and cried if I missed an episode, and my siblings and I played Ocarina of Time a lot and I was OBSESSED with Link. When my friends and I would play pretend, they would be wolves or princesses or whatever and I would be Link. This story is just me mashing together a lot of things I liked, and because of that it's hard not to love it. I hope you all enjoy it as well :D
The rest of this diary has some other gems, including:
- Multiple pages where I only wrote "Donkey Kong"
- Several fascinating poems
- On the first page, where you're supposed to fill in your favorite color, animals, etc, I put "favorite subject: ME". I was not lacking in self confidence as a young child :D
- "Today, my sister said I could not see something. I plan to steal it on 11-9-02. Until then bye bye!" I wish I knew what this was about! If I can trust the dates of the entries, 11/9/02 was over a year after I wrote this, maybe even over two years later. I assume I forgot about the object and never stole it.
no subject
Date: 2022-07-08 10:02 pm (UTC)I love your first fanfic concepts! We're both bringing characters into a slightly more familiar or mundane setting, which is super interesting. I feel like that impulse, or the one to make self-inserts in the canon universe, is the most common beginning impulse... not that I've backed that up with a survey or anything :D Both include relating with the characters/world very directly and personally.
The next ones I remember writing at a slightly older age were: 1) a Tales of Symphonia fic where one of the characters is de-aged to my age and loses his memories and is magically transported to our world, and then keeps teleporting between the two on accident; 2) a Harry Potter fic from the perspective of SENTIENT FURNITURE IN AN ABANDONED CLASSROOM where the Hufflepuffs hang out during the second book because they're terrified the Heir of Slytherin will kill them; and 3) something dark and edgy set in the Chao garden from Sonic Adventure 2? I don't remember the details. None of these were ever finished.
Ah, I knew I was going to be revealing myself as a Youth with this :D
