AMV: Homewrecker

I've been going pretty fast this year, since the last time I posted I have two more AMVs and another one on the way O_O So here's the first of them!

My description on Youtube (which is, admittedly, tailored to the three people who actually watch my videos): "I meant to make this WAY funnier but I just couldn't fit in that many jokes :/ though tbh, Madara himself is the joke. Why did he lick his own blood like that???" So, that should give some idea of the tone :D

• Overall it went pretty well! The action sequences were really fun to do, though now that it's been a few weeks, I don't think I should have included that shot of Madara breakdancing... the lighting is too distracting to the eye. But otherwise I stand by everything. Fight scenes are my favorite thing even though they're probably also the hardest to do.
• Recontextualizing everything to make it look like Madara is the wronged party is SO funny. This video is from Madara's POV. He lives such a hard life and nothing is ever his fault :(
• I can tell the ghost Obito AMV changed me permanently because when I was presented with the shot of Hashirama at 0:31, and his mouth was moving, my immediate response was "ok I'll just hand trace his hair in every frame and paste that on top so I can freeze his mouth. Fifteen minutes. That's easy."
• One day I'll figure out how to zoom in on masks... if you look very closely at 2:07 you'll see Madara's mouth wiggling around because I positioned it frame by frame. His hair is moving around enough that I think no one noticed? That's the goal.

Ah, that is so cool!!! I stopped watching/reading Naruto before most of these characters were introduced, I think, but it's a super good video, love how well the music match the fights and jumps!!

Yeah, everything in this AMV is pretty late game (episode 322 of Shippuden or later, so when you add in the 220 episodes of OG Naruto.... episode 542/720 😑 which is reprehensible. No show should have so many episodes!!)

Hahaha that is so many episodes. And sometimes I see One Piece/Detective Conan pop up where I'm watching anime and I think "maybe someday... but probably not" 😂

Just looked it up and they each have about 1000 episodes..... I'm very impressed with anyone who does that!! Watching (the majority of) Naruto has already taken me three and a half years, I can't even imagine more 😬

Oh this is fantastic, lmao. I got a good chuckle out of the beginning with the "Homewrecker ➡" overhead, and the various bits of action synced to the beat were very cool.

Thanks!!! The title and the arrow were almost the first thing I did and it made me happy every time I saw it :D

The arrow over him at the beginning is just hilarious. Every time I see it I have to pause and just laugh. This whole video is so satisfying with how consistently actions land on beats (rip Sai), cuts are used for lyric emphasis (I adore 0:25), and your overall great sense for pacing (letting 0:36 build tension on that slow shot before jumping into the chorus and action). A part like 1:12-1:26 that could have more prolonged shots to match how the song dies down, but doesn’t, yet still feels fine for it because it’s giving purposeful information in the process and you get the slower tension build up from the part following. The rapid cuts syncing up with the natural build from the song itself on the word “fun” and the music behind “anyone” is another big part in making this work so well. The image of Madara just falling into the water at “You could say that my life’s a mess” is so fucking funny as well. I love this AMV so much.

AHHHH first of all this is probably the nicest comment I've ever received, thank you!! The specific moments and timestamps!! I always strive to have good pacing and beat matching in videos so it's lovely to hear that a lot of it worked. And that you appreciated my jokes!!! Making this AMV was an exercise in trying not to die laughing at every turn, but it's so difficult to tell how much of that comes through to the viewer.

Haha you homed in on the part of the video I was least sure of... I thought about changing it up but 1) I didn't know what else to put there, and 2) I knew I needed to do everything in my power to have Madara fall over and die at "my life's a mess". That was an ESSENTIAL joke. So much of the video is serious vulnerable stuff so I had to make fun of Madara at every opportunity to balance it out :D

rip Sai indeed, I love him so much and he didn't deserve to get sidelined for the entire final fight :(

That's so sweet ;; But yeah I wanted to send you something really appreciative because I've tried my hand at shorter AMVs before and I get how much goes into it--and to nail it so well too!! And oh I agree that joke alone is well worth structuring the whole section around lmao. And I'm glad you got it to work!! I feel like it has a good overall balance between poking fun and looking sympathetically at him. (The Sasuke to Izuna parallel cut then back to Madara digging the sword in and walking away... ouchie. But it's okay look at this idiot fall face-first into this stream.)
